Baldwin City police got an early start on Fourth of July type offenses over the weekend.
On Saturday at 4:15 p.m., police received a call about a non-injury accident in the 100 block of 11th Street.
“The driver of the car called the police department and reported she’d been in an accident,” said Police Chief Mike McKenna. “When officers arrived they found the driver of the vehicle and she was slurring her words.
“After a short period of time, the officer realized she was under the influence of something and given a field-sobriety test, which she failed.”
The 41-year-old Baldwin City woman was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and taken to Douglas County Jail. McKenna said there was no alcohol involved and prescription medicine was found.
Earlier that morning at 2 a.m., officers were called to the Lodge on U.S. Highway 56 where three people who had been asked to leave had returned. They were having an argument in the parking lot, he said. Police tried to break up the disturbance and eventually had to dry-run taser one of the three who was arrested for battery on a law enforcement officer.
All three were charged with obstructing legal process, trespassing and disorderly conduct and taken to jail. They were a 20-year-old man, a 22-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, all from Baldwin City. The 20-year-old was also charged with purchase and consumption of alcohol.
