Brad Canterbury won’t have to worry about beginning the cross-country season with a large enough mileage base when practice begins Monday. That’s the one thing coaches look to see when the season starts. They want to know if their runners have added up the miles over the summer. This senior at Baldwin High School won’t have to worry his coach.

Track has been a part of Mike and Angie Spielman’s lives for decades. Both were decorated high school runners in Kansas and went on to have success as collegiate competitors at the University of Kansas. Now, they are both coaches in the Baldwin School District.

Seniors win hog ball nail-biter

Mike Berg nearly caused a slight controversy on the final day of his Baldwin High School football camp. His involvement and a couple of his officiating calls had some of the senior Bulldogs nervous about losing their final hog ball championship.
BJHS girls compete at national level

A pair of Baldwin City teens completed their summer track and field seasons by competing at the national level over the weekend. Despite neither medaling in the particular events, they were both pleased with their performances.
Camp week excites players for season

For the first time in many years, Mike Berg isn’t using his week of summer camp to install a new offense. Instead, he is having his Baldwin High School football players improve the offense that led the Bulldogs to a 10-3 record and state semifinal round a year ago.

A handful of runners battled a warm, muggy morning in a fundraiser for the Shriner’s Hospital here Saturday. Although it wasn’t a typical autumn morning, most of those runners were competing in the Kansas Shrine Bowl all-star cross-country run.

BHS grads headed to Shrine Bowl activities

Anthony Ciambrone was selected to the Kansas Shrine Bowl football game. Heather Garcia and Aaron Karlin were chosen to run in the Adidas 5-kilometer and 1-mile fun run that features 60 all-star cross country runners from around the state.
Fun-filled youth camps

Dozens of Baldwin City youths have been busy with summer camps during the past two weeks. They have been busy playing volleyball, basketball, soccer and football.
All-state three-peat

Alex Zordel hasn’t missed an All-State softball team yet and doesn’t hope to next year. The BHS senior has been named to the second-team All-State team all three years at Baldwin High School.
Grossner finds dual threat player

For the past three years, Grossner and the rest of the Baker University football team have joked about using senior Eric Allen as a wide receiver. He has started as a cornerback every game during his first three years as a Wildcat.
