2006 Maple Leaf Festival November 2, 2006
The 49th-annual Maple Leaf Festival went on as usual, despite rain showers all Saturday. The sun came out Sunday, as did the visitors.
No one was immune to the wet, cold weather for Saturday's Maple Leaf Festival parade. Elmo the Clown had a skeleton umbrella with a handerchief for protection, but as usual he hammed it up for the parade crowd.
There was a sea of umbrellas and trash-bag ponchos at Saturday's Maple Leaf Festival parade. A steady, cold rain kept both parade participants and watchers from coming to Baldwin City for the 49th-annual festival on Saturday.

The weather was cool Sunday for the second day of the Maple Leaf Festival, but unlike Saturday, it was dry. Sunday's attendance surpassed Saturday's for a change as booth goers were treated to a colorful display of leaves, crafts and food.
Duane Hemphill, 18-months-old, was bundled up underneath an umbrella for the entire Maple Leaf Festival parade. His mom, Tonya Hemphill, brought him.
The Rainbow Experience Preschool float travels down High Street during the rain-soaked parade. The preschool won first place in the float competition.
Allison Hartzog, 18-months-old, plays in the colorful leaves Sunday. She came to the festival with her father Stacy Hartzog from Olathe.

Cody Roecker, 4, was enjoying the pony rides at the Kids Zone Sunday. His grandfather, LeRoy Roecker, brought Cody from Osawatomie for the festival.
Maple Leaf emcees Knute Pittenger, left, and Bill Gray had one of the biggest umbrellas on hand at the festival, using it to shield them from the rain Saturday. The duo also used plastic bags to cover their microphones.
Bert Hitchcock was one of the few antique car entries in the Maple Leaf Festival parade. His grandchildren rode along side.
