State track and field 2008 May 29, 2008
Baldwin High School competed at the 2008 state track and field meet in Wichita May 23-24. BHS came home with four gold medals and two school records.
Baldwin High School won the Class 4A boys' 1,600-meter relay Saturday night to end the state meet. BHS ran 3:25.42. Team members were, from left, freshman Carson Barnes, junior Ryan Kennedy, senior Dustin Schiller and senior Kyle Smith.
Baldwin High School won the Class 4A girls' 3,200-meter run Saturday morning at the state meet. BHS set the school record by running 9:41.09. The team members are shown here on the awards' stand. Baldwin High School senior Heather Garcia crosses the finish line as she wins the 1,600-meter run Saturday afternoon. She won the race for the third straight year as she ran 5:05.97 to easily win her third gold medal in the event. She also ran the 3,200-meter run on Friday, running 11:09.45, to win that event for the third consecutive year also. Garcia also finished runner-up in the 800-meter run Saturday and set a school record of 2:15.29.
Tony Weiss, Baldwin High School freshman, competed in the Class 4A boys' 3,200-meter run at the state meet. Weiss finished seventh, running a personal-best time of 10:02.63.
